Tower Stands: Whether hunting over a soybean field or a cutover, it is hard to beat a tower stand. They have the following advantages: 1) Does not require a particular tree to use A tower stand can be placed anywhere there is enough ground space to allow the legs to sit. This is priceless when you want the stand in an exact area. 2) Comfort. A tower stand allows you a lot of space and choice for seating. If you are going to spend a lot of time in the stand, you might as well be comfortable. 3) Stability and safety. If you add shooting rails to your tower stand, you will have a solid platform from which to take long shots. A well-constructed tower stand is also very safe and secure. 4) Scent control. The walls of a tower stand will help conceal scent better. 5) Movement. The walls will also conceal movement. Of course, a tower stand also has some disadvantages. 1) Cost. The initial, as well as construction, costs of setting up a tower stand can be higher than the cost of a traditional ladder or hang-on stand. 2) Portability. A Tower stand can’t be easily moved very frequently. 3) Maintenance. It is necessary to repair/replace any wood on the tower stand every once in a while. In my opinion, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Of course, you have to take into consideration your own situation and decide. For me, they can’t be beat for hunting fields. They are especially nice when hunting with children. My boys and I have shared a tower stand many times and they are a great way to be able to introduce a youngster to deer hunting. Here are some pictures from the recent addition to my family; the Taj Mahal. This tower stand is 4’x6’ and 12’ tall. Ammentites include a roof, 2”x6” shooting rails, carpet, drapes and an office chair. My biggest complaint about this stand is that the area I have it in is not a great morning area, but the stand is so nice and comfortable that I can’t bring myself to hunt somewhere else!
